Jump

Learning to Fly. vol. 5

Alexandra

This is me

now 2 years or so

before I cut my hair

now I look

a bit

different

but still the same.

I am growing it back out.

Welcome to Jump, Learning to Fly, the 5th  volume of my blog writings. Here are the basics about me:  I am closer to 50 then 40, live in New Hampshire,  work a full time job,  and  write a bit on the side.  I am wickedly dyslexic and generally can not spell correctly to save my soul, however I can use spell check and sometimes do.  I have worked really hard to overcome the challenges that my funny little brain has, writing in the open, un-censored has really helped.

For  all you folks that are hung up on punctuation, I don’t have an editor here, so random, overused, commas, and other forms of dots and dashes are….well…..part of the way I am….. you must choose to ignore, or, perhaps, adapt.

I am an avid spinner and knitter.  I love all things fiber and fiber related and hope to be able to do more of it this coming year.  I knit without patterns, but sometimes write them and have published some as well.  I also love to write, something I have done in journal form for years but this blog thing gives me a place to write and edit all at the same time.  I just love that and I love WordPress for allowing this format to exist. Occasionally I will take a bit of a break, but I always come back, most times with a new chapter starting in my life.   My first blog was Black Ram Farm, Musings from Rural Vermont.  Then Owl Tavern, found at the very beginning of this blog and it has morphed a few times since.  There is also a very sad chapter interwoven is some of this called Loving beyond ALS.    That is pretty much the whole story up till now.

I am opinionated, tenacious and try to practice loving-kindness in all aspects of my life.   I seek to uncover the humor in life and just love, love, love to share good times with my friends.  All writings in this blog are mine and I take full responsibility of being completely human and am apt to change my mind and my opinion at any time.   I am also a story teller and any good story teller, tells a story, not always the truth.   I tell my version of things that might not be the same as someone else’s version.  I am well practiced at flip-flopping and can and will change my mind and my opinion without warning. Except for two major things.  I love my children and I love the Red Sox.  I don’t flip flop on that. All the rest if up for grabs.   I know it can be a bit of a roller coaster ride, I am riding the best that I can.

My hope is that you will come along on this journey of mine.

Hey young thing. You can see that I am a “Jump”. I actually have been to the Village of Jump in the UK some 15 years ago. It is a village of some 400 doors (my way of estimating population). A fascinating place. However, the local lore says it has no correlation to our Surname which I think came from Moor Monkton- just outside of York about 1 mile and means “one who lives at the bottom of a cliff”. If Ancestry.com is correct I am an 8th generation Jump in the US. I am not listed YET but my father is (Paul Morris Jump- born Feb 25, 1897).. So where is the evidence that the Village of Jump relates to our surname? To repeat, I went there in 1995 and searched the place, came away somewhat disappointed that this was not the origin. Rather- it is more like “jumping over the creek”. I have tons of pics from there.
Caio, Bill (William Leece Jump).. PS- let me hear from you if you have any real data or just want to BS (Means be serious- It is very possible that we are distantly related as (if Ancestry.com is correct) then the Jump’s were in Ct in the mid 1600′s.. Check it out.

  5. Hi Alexandra,
Loved the story about Toes the 3 legged cat! 25% off sounds right.

thank you for kind words…. if you subscribe you also get the stuff I end up deleting because it is so from the core… sometimes it can be a bit over the top in an open honest kind of way….. and individuals truth rattles people sometimes.

I found my friends Judith and Sue on your previous blog. I would love to reconnect with your neighbors and friends.
Can you kindly pass along that Emmett is thinking of them and would love to be in touch with them? Many thanks.
